I’m on vacation now, so posting has been missing in the last 2 weeks. I’ll be back at the start of the new year.
While some people were celebrating Christmas, many sports fanatics, like me, were anxiously awaiting the first NBA game of the season. I mean, 5 games to start off the season? Oh yeah!
The games didn’t disappoint either. The New York Knicks pulled out a two point win over the aging Boston Celtics, despite a great game from Rajon Rondo. Carmelo Anthony outshone him, though, scoring 37 and Amare Stoudemire scored 21 in the shadow.
The second game was a NBA Finals rematch between last year’s champions, the Dallas Mavericks, with some new players, including Lamar Odom, against the “Big Three” of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh, and the Miami Heat (I’ll have a post up in the next few games relating to them and the newest craze in the NBA). The Heat prevailed, 105-94, while the Mavs didn’t look like NBA champions, losing throughout the matchup.
The third game was a thriller, as last year’s league MVP, Derrick Rose, scored the winning basket for the Chicago Bulls to lead them to a one point victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Kobe Bryant scored 28 points in a gritty effort, playing with a torn ligament in his right wrist. Rose’s game winner wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the defense of Luol Deng, who stole Bryant’s pass a few seconds earlier and then blocked his last gasp effort at the buzzer.
The last two games were also interesting, as the Oklahoma City Thunder, thought by many as favorites for the NBA title, beat the Orlando Magic, with Dwight Howard playing after many trade rumors in the offseason/lockout.
Blake Griffin and “Lob City”, aka the Clippers, beat up on the Golden State Warriors by 19 points.
I just wanted to say Happy Holidays and enjoy the basketball!
