Kim Clijsters out of 2011 U.S. Open

You won't be seeing this familiar face at Flushing Meadows this year.

Kim Clijsters will miss her favorite Grand Slam, the U.S. Open this year due to a stomach muscle ailment. The 28-year old from Belgium will not be able to defend her title for the second straight year, a tournament she has won three times, most recently in 2009 and 2010. Clijsters also missed Wimbledon with an ankle injury and fell early in the French Open, has had an injury-riddled season after her Australian Open triumph in January. The 3rd ranked Clijsters has been limited this season, skipping a warm-up event in Toronto, Canada. The 2011 U.S. Open begins on August 29th, and Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, and Co. will be left to the task of winning the trophy.
