Kim Clijsters withdraws from Wimbledon

Australian Open winner Kim Clijsters withdrew from Wimbledon.

An unpredictable women’s field becomes even more unpredictable as Kim Clijsters, the 2011 Australian Open champion withdrew from Wimbledon, citing a lingering foot injury that hampered her during the recently completed French Open, where she lost in the second round to Aranxta Rus. Clijsters aggravated a foot injury when she slid into the net at the UNICEF Open in the Netherlands. Should she have decided to compete, she would be ranked #2, only behind Caroline Wozniacki. Clijsters is a three-time US Open winner and the hard courts typically suit her game best, as she has been most successful on that surface. Wimbledon, from the All England Tennis Club, starts Monday, June 20th.
