Serena Williams returns for Wimbledon

Remember this? It felt like so long ago that Serena Williams was playing professional tennis, not to mention winning a Grand Slam.

Serena Williams is back. Tell your friends, parents, and whomever you want. Williams will be back to defend her Wimbledon title and will officially return to professional tennis when she plays in the Wimbledon warm up tournament in Eastbourne, England. Williams has been out for almost a year since cutting her foot with glass at a restaurant in a freak injury, and then got two surgeries. Williams also added to her unluckiness when she was diagnosed with blood clots in her lung, then was diagnosed with a hematoma on her stomach, and hasn’t fully recovered until now. The 13-time Grand Slam winner beat Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 6-2 in a beatdown to win her fourth Wimbledon title. Serena returned to the court in April, but wasn’t WTA Tour shape until now, and missed the French Open. Serena’s sister Venus is scheduled to return at Eastbourne as well after being injured at the Australian Open in January. Venus suffered a hip and groin injury, retiring against Andrea Petkovic, and hadn’t played since. The Williams sisters have freefalled down the rankings, and now sit with Serena at #25 and Venus at #32 in the world. Wimbledon starts on June 20th.
