Heat win Game 1

The Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks were deadlocked for a half, then the better team cruised, as the Heat won by a score of 92-84 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The home team was down by 1 going into the third quarter, but Dwyane Wade contributed 15 of his 22 points in the second half, looking like Dwyane Wade circa 2006, when Wade and Shaquille O’Neal led the way for the Heat, who won their first and only NBA title, also against the Mavericks. The Heat are now 1/4 of the way there, and the Big 3 were huge once again, leading the way as LeBron James scored 24 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, and Chris Bosh started very strong, and ended with 19 points and 9 rebounds. In a very defensive first game, both teams started the fourth quarter with points in the 60’s. Dirk Nowitzki played very well, scoring a game-high 27 points and pulling down 8 rebounds, but announced after the game that he has a torn tendon in the middle finger of his left, non-dominant hand. He will play in Game 2, also in Miami, quickly erasing any doubts. Shawn Marion had a good game, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 boards. Both teams were shooting unlike themselves, Miami shooting 39%, while Dallas shot 37% from the floor. The game wasn’t over even late in the fourth quarter, as Dirk kept Dallas close, and his 12-for-12 showing from the charity stripe ensured a close game. The Miami crowd, most fans dressed in white and screaming, enjoyed a treat when Dwyane Wade and LeBron James connected for a thrilling alley-oop in the final minute to officially put the game away (video above).
