French Open Day 10 review and look ahead: Women

Well, what can I say? I haven’t done these at all, and the French Open is almost over. I’ll finish up the last few days, and I’ll definitely have everything ready for Wimbledon in only about a month.

Notable completed matches

#5 Francesca Schiavone beat #14 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 1-6, 7-5, 7-5

#11 Marion Bartoli beat #13 Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-6, 6-4

Notable scheduled Day 11 matches and predictions

#6 Li Na vs. #4 Victoria Azarenka

Prediction: Azarenka in three sets

Why: Both Li and Azarenka have been quietly spectacular this tournament, staying strong while Caroline Wozniacki and Kim Clijsters have departed. Azarenka is the highest remaining seed in the draw, and should edge this one out and advance to the semifinals.

#7 Maria Sharapova vs. #15 Andrea Petkovic

Prediction: Sharapova in two sets

Why: I easily could have switched that prediction to three sets, but I think Maria continues her fantastic form of late on clay and advances to the semifinals. I think she’ll win in two very tight sets, with the scoreline something along the line of 7-5, 7-6.

Match to watch: Azarenka vs. Li

Why: #4 vs. #6? What better can you want? Wozniacki-Clijsters? Don’t be greedy, this matchup will be a hit, and Sharapova-Petkovic won’t be a bad match either. It should really be “Matches to watch”. They’re both very good.
