Mauer plays in first game since injury

Twins catcher Joe Mauer returned to play Wednesday, hitting a single in a 4-3 win.

Joe Mauer went 1-for-3 Wednesday in his first game back from knee surgery done in the offseason. The one hit was a single right back up the middle off of New York Mets starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey in Minnesota’s 4-3 Spring Training win over the Mets. Mauer hit .327
with nine home runs and 75 RBIs in 2010. He won the 2009 MVP
with an average of .365, 28 homers and 96 RBIs. Mauer was playing
as the designated hitter, away from his usual position as catcher. The Twins’ first game of the 2011 regular season is on April 1st in Toronto against the Blue Jays.
