Tar Heels escape

Tyler Zeller helped North Carolina edge the Miami Hurricanes.

The North Carolina Tar Heels escaped from a stunning loss with a game-winning layup by Tyler Zeller with no time remaining to beat the Miami (Florida) Hurricanes 61-59. North Carolina, ranked #7 in the country, didn’t look like a top-10 team, playing sloppily, due to a mix of bad passes and unnecessary fouls, and it took some late game magic for Roy William’s team to get through to the semifinals of the ACC tournament. North Carolina, who are now 25-6, won the regular season title over fierce rival Duke. They might meet the Blue Devils again in the finals Sunday. The Hurricanes led by 19 at one point and led by 9 points at halftime. Highly touted Harrison Barnes scored 18 as well for UNC. They play Clemson Saturday afternoon in the semifinals at 1 PM Eastern Time on ESPN.
