Niemi rewarded with extension

Antti Niemi was rewarded for his strong play with a 4-year contract extension.

San Jose Sharks goalie Antti Niemi has been rewarded for his fine play of late with a new 4-year, $15.2 million deal. Niemi, who won a Stanley Cup last year with the Chicago Blackhawks, tested the market this year and found a new home in California, where he has thrived. The Swedish goaltender has been a big part of the Shark’s success this year, with a 23-15-3 record for San Jose, who are currently at 3rd place in the Western Conference. He was platooning with Antero Niittimaki, but Niittimaki has been out for the last 18 games. As of March 1st, Niemi was named one of the NHL’s Three Stars of the month of February.

Ha ha, I can’t wait for season’s end when the Sharks are questioning this move after another early exit.

  3. Toma says:

He’s a mediocre goaltender at best, yet they sign a 4 year contract? Who do they think he is, Tim Thomas?
