Portis released

Clinton Portis was released by the Washington Redskins.

Former Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis was released Monday. The 29-year old played 7 seasons for Washington, but injuries were his downfall, missing most of the past two seasons. Portis has amassed 9,023 rushing yards in his career, and if this is the last time with Washington, he will fall just short of the Redskins’ franchise rushing record, held by John Riggins. 2005 will always be considered his best season, setting the Washington single-season rushing record, that has since yet to be broken. The expressive running back played in only 5 games in 2010 before a groin injury ended his season and effectively his Redskins tenure.

  1. This doesn’t shock me much. I’m sure someone will pick him up, but it won’t be for nearly as much money as he would have made had he stayed healthy

    • He was rumored to be gone for a while now. No surprise there. Although it is kind of sad to see him go out from Washington like that. He’s close to the all-time Redskins rushing record and various Redskins records.
