Del Potro wins for first time since 2009

Juan Martin del Potro won the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships, improving his ranking to number 89 in the world.

Juan Martin del Potro, the 2009 US Open Champion, won his first tournament since coming back after missing almost all of 2010 due to a nagging wrist injury. Del Potro beat Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 6-4, 6-4 to win the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships in Delray Beach, Florida. The 22-year old Argentine didn’t look as sharp as he did in the previous rounds, but got by thanks to the inconsistent play of Tipsarevic, who looked like his mind was on something else, perhaps the upcoming Davis Cup, which Serbia won last year. He was hoping to win his first ATP Tour tournament, but it was not to be. Del Potro was at #166 in the world, and will be closer to his #4 overall ranking achieved before the wrist injury when the new rankings put del Potro at #89 in the world, a massive 77 spot increase.
