Adam Wainwright hurt badly

The St. Louis ace is likely done for the season.

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright was experiencing pain in his right elbow and will get tests done and see if any ligaments are damaged. Cards General Manager John Mozeliak did not sound very encouraged, and hinted that Wainwright, who won 20 games in 2010 and 19 the year before, might need Tommy John Surgery or another season-ending surgery. The 29-year old closer turned starter finished second in the Cy Young award in 2010. Roy Halladay won the award. Wainwright’s 2.42 ERA in 2010 was second again, once again to Halladay. Without Wainwright as their #1 starter, the rotation outside of Chris Carpenter will be shaky: Jaime Garcia, Kyle Lohse, Jake Westbrook, and one more starter instead of Wainwright.
