The Indiana Pacers have fired Jim O’Brien Sunday after team president Larry Bird decided that a change was necessary. The Pacers sit only 2 games out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, but their record sits at 17-27 and have lost 7 of their past 10 games. O’Brien was 121-169 in his Pacers tenure. The Celtics legend Bird was very upset with O’Brien’s handling of the lineup and was likely to be fired. Assistant coach Frank Vogel will take over the coaching vacancy as an interim coach. He does not have any previous coaching duties. O’Brien was hired in May of 2007.
