Final Australian Open preview

There will not be a Day 12 review and look ahead, but rather a look ahead to the finals for both men and women.

Women’s Final: #3 Kim Clijsters vs. #9 Li Na

Prediction: Clijsters in 3 sets

Why: It would be a historical achievement for Li to become China’s first Grand Slam winner, but even though Clijsters seems to dominate only at the US Open, she should get past the hard-hitting Li. Li was impressive after being down a set and losing in the second vs. top seeded Caroline Wozniacki, and then winning the set and overmatching Wozniacki 6-3 in the third. She’ll need that fighting spirit against Clijsters, but the chances of her pulling off a surprise win like she did in the Medibank International warm up tournament are low. Still, it’s possible. Especially when Clijsters isn’t in New York.

Men’s Final

#3 Novak Djokovic vs. #5 Andy Murray

Prediction: Djokovic in 4 sets

Why: Simply put, Djokovic was too much for Roger Federer, and Murray looked shaky at times in his 4-set victory over a lesser opponent, David Ferrer. What impressed me the most about Djokovic is that his serve is a million times better than it was when he came on tour. He was rarely missing shots and looked really good and most importantly, looked really confident, like he expected to beat Federer. Murray’s going to need a big, big, effort against Djokovic the way he’s playing, and I have to say; I enjoy watching the few times neither Rafa nor Roger play in the final of a Grand Slam.
