Australian Open Day 11 review and look ahead: Women

Day 11 completed matches

#9 Li Na defeats #1 Caroline Wozniacki 3-6, 7-5, 6-3

#3 Kim Clijsters defeats #2 Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 6-3

Thoughts: I was looking at the score on my phone, and Caroline was winning in the second set. Figuring that she would win easily, I turned it off. Little did I know that the 20-year old Dane would crumple again, and lose in a stunner to the Chinese veteran. In the first set Wozniacki had everything going for her. Even in the second set, she played well. Until the end. Li came back to win the set 7-5, and dominated in the third, 6-3. All the hope for Wozniacki to reach her first Grand Slam Final disappeared in an instant. For Clijsters, I expected her to win, but not this easily. The scoreline looked that of one in the 3rd round. Zvonareva just lost it after playing so well the whole tournament. The rematch of last year’s US Open Final, which Clijsters also won, again didn’t go well for the second-seeded Russian.
