Australian Open day 9 review and look ahead: Men

Day 9 Notable completed matches

#2 Roger Federer defeats #19 Stanislas Wawrinka 6-1, 6-3, 6-3

#3 Novak Djokovic defeats #6 Tomas Berdych 6-1, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1

Thoughts: Federer thoroughly dominated a clearly overmatched Wawrinka, and he showed confidence heading into his semifinal match vs. Djokovic and a possible final against Rafael Nadal. Should be very interesting semifinal, with Djokovic playing possibly the best tennis of his career, and should give Federer a tough challenge that will ultimately set up a likely match vs. Nadal.

Day 10 matches and predictions

#1 Rafael Nadal vs. #7 David Ferrer

Prediction: Nadal in 3 sets

#5 Andy Murray vs. Alexandr Dolgopolov

Prediction: Murray in 4 sets

Thoughts: Like Djokovic, Murray’s playing the best tennis of his career, and I see no change. That is, until the semifinals probably against Nadal. Dolgopolov has had a good run, but he’ll bow out to the Scot. Nadal should easily cruise by Ferrer, despite his ranking.
