Australian Open Day 8 review and look ahead: Men

The red hot Wawrinka will try to take down fellow Swiss Roger Federer

Notable Day 8 completed matches

Alexandr Dolgopolov defeats #4 Robin Soderling 1-6, 6-3, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2

#5 Andy Murrray defeats #11 Jurgen Melzer 6-3, 6-1, 6-1

#1 Rafael Nadal defeats #15 Marin Cilic 6-2, 6-4, 6-3

#7 David Ferrer defeats Milos Raonic 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4

Thoughts: I was a little surprised Soderling was just completely overmatched, but then again, he has never been all too consistent and Dolgopolov just controlled the match and Soderling was forced to run. Nadal beating Cilic in 3 sets is really no surprise, although I thought it would be a little closer. Raonic’s great run was stopped by Ferrer, but I’m really excited to see what this kid can do. His serve was unstoppable when on. He’s the future of Canadian tennis.

Notable Day 9 matches and predictions

#19 Stanislas Wawrinka vs. #2 Roger Federer

Prediction: Federer in 5 sets

#3 Novak Djokovic vs. #6 Tomas Berdych

Prediction: Djokovic in 4 sets
