Australian Open Day 3 review and look ahead: Women

Day 3 featured mostly expected results.

Day 3 notable completed matches

#11 Justine Henin defeats Elena Baltacha 6-1, 6-3

#4 Venus Williams defeats Sandra Zahlavova 6-7 (6-8), 6-0, 6-4

#1 Caroline Wozniacki defeats Vania King 6-1, 6-0

#14 Maria Sharapova defeats Virginie Razzano 7-6 (7-3), 6-3

#6 Francesca Schiavone defeats Rebecca Marino 6-3, 5-7, 6-7 (9-7)

#9 Li Na defeats Evgeniya Rodina 6-3, 6-2

#8 Victoria Azarenka defeats Andrea Hlavackova 6-4, 6-4

Thoughts: Like I said, Day 3 was a day of no surprises, as all the favorites came up out on top, very similar to the men. Only Venus Williams seemed to struggle a bit, but that’s mostly because of a groin injury she suffered in the first set.

Day 4 notable matches and predictions

#3 Kim Clijsters vs. Carla Suarez Navarro

Prediction: Clijsters in two sets

#5 Samantha Stosur vs. Vera Dushevina

Prediction: Stosur in 2 sets
