Panthers coaching vacancy no longer

The Carolina Panthers have hired Ron Rivera as their head coach, replacing John Fox, who was fired shortly after the end of the regular season. Rivera takes over the worst team in the NFL in the Panthers, who went 2-14 and received the first pick in the NFL Draft next year. As one former 1985 linebacker gets fired, Mike Singletary, another gets hired, in Rivera. Rivera was the defensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers. He also is only the second head coach of Hispanic descent, after Tom Flores. The contract is 4 years long worth about $11.2 million. The Panthers were clearly looking for a defensive-minded coach, as they also interviewed defensive coordinators Perry Fewell of the Giants, and Rex Ryan’s brother, Rob Ryan.
