Seahawks upset Super Bowl Champs

The largely unfavored Seattle Seahawks beat last year’s Super Bowl Champions, 41-36. The Seahawks were a cause of controversy for having a 7-9 record, and making the playoffs, while teams with far better records did not. Seattle is the first team to make the playoffs with a under-.500 record. Despite Drew Brees’ strongest effort, the Saints defense gave up 131 yards and one TD to Marshawn Lynch. Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck had the game of his life, throwing for 272 yards coupled with 4 touchdown passes. Seattle led the game 34-20 at the beginning of the 4th quarter, but the game stayed close before Lynch’s electrifying 67-yard run, the longest of his career and also the longest in Seahawks playoff history. A desperate Brees threw for 39 completions, a playoff record, almost forgetting about the rushing attack in the second half.
