84-year old head coach Joe Paterno isn’t ready to step down yet. His Penn State Nittany Lions are playing the Florida Gators in the Outback Bowl. JoePa has been the head coach of Penn State for the last 45 years, and doesn’t plan to retire.
“I don’t know. People think I’m going to quit this year or next year. I haven’t even thought of it,” Paterno answered. “I honest to goodness have not thought of it.”
Paterno’s wife Sue also denied that JoePa was going to retire. She said the rumors were “lies” and false. Coincidentally, Paterno’s Outback Bowl opponent’s coach, Urban Meyer, has announced he plans to step down, wanting to spend more time with family, despite being decades younger than Joe. The Outback Bowl is on New Year’s Day.
